ISPS Code steps up security for ports and shipping
Article Abstract:
The implementation of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), which became effective on 1st July 2004 and its implications for the security of maritime commerce, is examined. It is seen that the ISPS code satisfies its goal of providing generic tool for codifying security levels and is capable of rationalizing the security threat throughout the world but it cannot be considered as a comprehensive security net.
