Industry readies for aviation trainer program
Article Abstract:
The training-simulator industry is bracing up for the Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer/Aviation Reconfigurable Manned Simulator (ACVATT/A), said to be the next major program in the Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (CATT) initiative of the US Army. After it awarded Lockheed Martin Information Systems with the Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT), the US Army is expected to award an AVCATT/A contract under a program worth as much as $150 million. The AVCATT/A, visualized as a follow-on to the Battlespace Integrated Concept Emulation Program (BICEP), will encompass six digitally-linked, reconfigurable manned simulators for group training and mission rehearsal, along with a tactical operations center and an after-action review facility, where missions can be replayed.

NAVAIR seeking to upgrade AN/AAR-47
Article Abstract:
The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) hopes to release a request for proposals (RFP) for the upgrade of the AN/AAR-47 Missile Approach Warning System sensors and software. NAVAIR aims to add laser warning and to boost the temperature sensitivity of the system's optics. The move to modify the AN/AAR-47 was preferred since the DOD's replacement missile warning systems, the AAR-57 and the AAR-54, will become available by 2002 and are to be acquired in limited production lots. The AN/AAR-47 is an infrared missile approach warning system that allows the detection of an approaching missile and activation of the appropriate countermeasures.
