Commodore Frank Lynch, head of the Irish Naval Service talks about the future of the maritime dimension to the Irish Defense Force. He stated that the naval service is restructuring itself, and hence are tasked with fishery protection and providing support to the Irish armed forces organized as part of the UN.

NATO renames MCMFORMED as MCMFORSOUTH

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has renamed its Standing Mine Countermeasures Force Mediterranean (MCMFORMED) to MCFORSOUTH or Mine Countermeasures Force South. The name change goes into effect on September 3, 2001.
