JSF contractors seek all-or-nothing contest
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin Corp and Boeing Co have both urged Pentagon officials to award the $200-billion contract for the supply of 3,000 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft to a single company. The appeal is in reaction to rumors that the contract could be divided between the two defense contractors. Some defense officials have expressed concern that the award of the huge contract to a single entity might result in the losing firm exiting completely from the fighter aircraft manufacturing sector.

JSF faces possible slowdown
Article Abstract:
All of the major defense bills being considered in the FY2001 budget by the US Congress will result in a slowdown of the Joint Strike Fighter program. The version of the US Senate, for example, adds another $20 million to extend the aircraft's demonstration and validation phase until Jun 2001. US House legislators, who have made similar changes in their budget version, expressed concerns regarding the progress of the aircraft's propulsion system technology.

Pentagon releases F-22 funds
Article Abstract:
A total of $1.2 billion was released by the US Department of Defense (DoD) for the F-22 program on Dec 10, 1999. The Air Force will use the money to procure six more F-22 airframes at a cost of $805 million, with another $275 million to be set aside for long-lead items for a follow-on batch of 10 more aircraft. The funding was released after an internal review of the F-22 program's status headed by DoD acquisition chief Jacques S Gansler was completed.
