President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon has effectively cracked down on anti-Syrian demonstrations in his country, although the question of Syria's control of Lebanon is certain to remain. There is an ongoing conflict between Lahoud and Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on this, and other, issues.

Syria pulls out of 45 bases in Beirut
