Classical fire support vs. parallel fires

The US Army has made the transition from classical artillery fire support to a system of parallel fire. However, there are advantages to each, and it would be ideal if commanders could have the option.

The need for refocusing on close combat, which can be considered as the most effective vision for the future Army and viewing close combat as the center of the land warfare strategy is addressed. Close combat is important for the Army and it is destined to be the centerpiece of the fight but even though modern technology is embraced, close-combat component of the joint force should not be abandoned.
