Malaysian Frigate 2000 in home waters
Article Abstract:
Marconi Marine's Glasgow shipyard has delivered the 2,270-ton frigate KD Lekiu to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) in mid Oct 1999. The frigate was one of the two ordered by RMN from GEC Naval in Mar 1992 under a GBP400- million ($657 million) deal. The two frigates, Lekiu and Jebat, are variants of a generic design known as Frigate 2000. The frigate is powered by four MTU29V 1163 TB93 diesels, and equipped with the Alenia Marconi Systems NAUTIS II command and fire control system.

Decision for Brazilian Niteroi-class frigate refit
Article Abstract:
Brazil has yet to decide on whether to proceed with an engine refit on one of six of its Niteroi-class frigates. Germany's MTU hopes to sign a contract to replae their 16V 956 TB91 diesels with a 12-cylinder version of the 1163 engine. Bofors have delivered almost all of their 40mm Mod 3 guns for the Niterois and Alenia Marconi Systems have also been heavily involved with the modernizations, delivering 12 Fire Control Systems, six search radars and six sets of Albatros missiles

First F 124 frigate starts sea trials
Article Abstract:
Blohm + Voss' first F 124 Sachsen-class frigate was launched at the Hamburg, Germany shipyard. The FGS Sachsen was launched to start trials at sea on August 28, 2001.
