Spain's versatile fleet at the ready

The Spanish Navy, the Armada Espanola, controls an area stretching to nearly 5,000kms. To accomplish its mission, which include the protection of nearly 90% of its international trade, the country's naval forces present an all-purpose capability ranging from the aircraft carrier 'Principe de Asturias' to an 85-year-old submarine fleet and an amphibious assault force. The fleet is based in Rota, Spain, and is divided into four operational commands.

PAAMS emerges from Horizon's ashes
Article Abstract:
France, Italy and the UK have jointly awarded a 1.3-billion pound sterling contract for the full scale engineering, development and initial production of the Principal Anti-Air Missile System (PAAMS) surface-to-air missile system to industrial consortia EuroPAAMS SAS. Terms of the contract call for all three participating nations to continue the collaborative development of PAAMS, with one, complete PAAMS system being delivered to each of the three states.
