Article Abstract:
The year 2000 marks the 10th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the first combat-use of the Maritime Prepositioning Ship (MPS) Force concept. The success of MPS in the implementation of Operation Desert Shield resulted in the further expansion of the original force of 13 MPS ships to 33 vessels that are capable of supporting US military forward deployments on short notice.

Missouri ceremony 60 years ago marked victory in the Pacific

It was aboard the battleship 'Missouri' that following the Japanese, General Douglas MacArthur signed the surrender document on behalf of the allied nations. The anomaly of only 31 stars on the US flag aboard the ship at a time when the US consisted of 48 states is explained.
