Class 214 - a new class of air-independent submarines
Article Abstract:
Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG is the general contractor for the new Class 214 submarines. The Class 214 belongs to a new class German submarines which features air-independent extended underwater endurance, non-nuclear power, flexible weapons, sensor mix and modular design. The submarine is expected to perform anti-surface and anti-submarine operations; surveillance, observation and reconnaisance tasks; covert mine-laying and intelligence operationss; and training and combat operations in a common task force.
