NASSCO begins extension of drydock
Article Abstract:
The National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) has undertaken an approximately $20-mil extension of its floating drydock facilities in San Diego, CA. The 785-feet expansion is in compliance with the $490-mil contract it received to maintain six Tarawa- and Wasp-class amphibious assault ships. According to Vice Admiral Alexander J. Krekich, the contract was awarded to NASSCO to avoid taking sailors away from their homes during overhauling of their vessels.
