NGICV hiatus breeds potential 'gapfillers
Article Abstract:
The funding delays in the ZAR1 billion Hoefyster next-generation infantry combat vehicle (NGICV) programme and shifts in the South African National Defence Force's (SANDF's) rationale for its land-vehicle requirements in the fight of its Vision 2020 force design study have encouraged the positing of a potential 'gapfiller' solutions. Two upgraded versions of the in-service Rafel 6 by 6 armoured vehicle family are among the potential gapfillers.

EADS is preparing to mount an assault on the South African land command-and-control (C2) systems market, on the back of its candidate for the South African National Defence Force's Hoefyster next-generation infantry combat vehicle (NGICV) requirement. This Modular Combat Vehicle (MCV) took center stage on the Denel stand at the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2004 show.
