Oerlikon launches naval combat system

Article Abstract:

A naval combat system for fast patrol boats, offshore patrol vessels and larger auxiliary vessels, known as the Seaguard mini-combat system, was launched by Oerlikon Contraves (Zurich, Switzerland) in the MECON 2006 conference in Hamburg. The system is based on Oerlikon's 35 mm GDM008 Millennium naval gun combined with advanced search and fire control radars, which include the 3-D search radar X-TAR 3D and the TMX Mk 2 and TMK Mk 2 tracking radars.

EADS is preparing to mount an assault on the South African land command-and-control (C2) systems market, on the back of its candidate for the South African National Defence Force's Hoefyster next-generation infantry combat vehicle (NGICV) requirement.
