Article Abstract:
Kockums Naval Systems has been awarded a SKr600 million ($73 million) contract by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration to install the next-generation Stirling Mk 3 air-independent propulsion (AIP) system aboard the Vastergotland-class (A 17) submarines Sodermanland and Ostergotland. The Mk 3 Stirling is a derivative of the Mk 2 system installted aboard the 1,490-ton Gotland class, which burns 1:4 mixture of diesel fuel and liquid oxygen in a circular combustion unit to provide auxiliary power for up to 19 days of submerged endurance at slow speeds.

Canada cross-decks FCS and considers AIP
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin Canada has been awarded a $11.4-million contract to replace the fire control system (FCS) on board Canada's Victoria-class submarines. Under the deal, the company will exchange the extant current Outfit DCC tactical data handling and FCS aboard the four former UK Royal Navy boats with modified Lockheed Martin Librascope SFCS Mk 1 Mod C units taken from the navy's Oberon boats. Included in the cross-decked system are FCS software rewrites and improved electronic components.
