Land Mine Detection Systems Inc, a Washington DC-based firm backed by the New Product Development Consortium of New York, is in the process of developing a mine detection system based on a technique envisioned by Dr. Dimitry Donskoy. Donskoy, a Russian immigrant to the US who has been an awardee of the USSR National Prize, is designing an equipment that uses nonlinear acoustics to distinguish between buried mines and other objects located underground.

Objective Force Warrior: Army courting 'non-traditional' industries in futuristic soldier-equipment program
Article Abstract:
The US Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command Natick Soldier Center's Objective Force Warrior initiative is aimed at revolutionary improvements in the ability of the inividual soldier using any possible available technology. One key technology will be improvements in batteries and power sources, while other areas of technology improvements being considered include weapons, clothing, helmets, camouflage and robotics.

Expanding The Envelope. Jet Fuel-Powered Engine Will Drive Cruise Missiles At 4,700 MPH

U.S. aerospace researchers have modified a cruise missile's engine to burn JP-10 liquid hydrocarbon fuel. The result of this development is the missile can travel faster and further than before. Also, JP-10 fuel does not require volatile and toxic fuel additives.
