The dangers of opium eradication in Asia
Article Abstract:
The campaigns to eradicate opium production in Asian countries like Afghanistan, Myanmar and Laos have become counterproductive. The hastened opium eradication programmes will, in the absence of alternative livelihoods being promoted, damage the fragile rural economy, prove counterproductive in the mid-term and impede sustainable solutions to the crisis.
