PAMS to forge ahead - hopefully
Article Abstract:
France, Italy and the UK have agreed to move ahead with the development and deployment of the PAMS area air defense system under a so-called Twin Track approach. The National Armament Directors of the three nations decided to proceed with the approach for PAMS, which is designed for the HORIZON programme aimed at creating a common new class of air-defense frigates. The agreement calls for the creation and deployment of two distinct but fully compatible PAMS versions, with development to be performed by the EuroPams consortium. The first PAMS type will be a Franco/Italian version featuring the Alenia EMPAR radar, while the second type will be a UK version featuring the Plessey SAMPSON radar.
