Pursuing radar's demise
Article Abstract:
The three major services in the US military have expressed plans to adopt stealth technology in most of their aircraft. The move comes as a direct response to the success of stealth aircraft in the battlefield, most notably in the 1991 Gulf War. The preference of US military to these forms of aircraft are also founded on the capability of stealth airplanes to evade radar and other aircraft-detection devices. The stealth plane also has the capability to reduce, if not totally eliminate, its acoustic signature and its visibility to infrared.

Skeptics and believers
Article Abstract:
US Chief of Staff Gen Eric Shinseki's failure to mention anything on the future of Army aviation during his speech at the Assn of the US Army in Oct 1999, led to a number of conflicting speculations. Gen Shinseki's vision of making the service lighter, faster and more deployable has been interpreted as a sign of reduced commitment to the modernization program of Army aviation. Others chose to believe that the non-mention is a sign that no reduction in the budget for Army aviation modernization will occur.
