Rebels and religion: How fighters become fanatics
Article Abstract:
The 21st century globalized world of politics may inspire action but religion inspires sacrifice and to combat one's enemy effectively, it is important to acknowledge the integrity and intensity of the enemy's faith to understand them better. The Bauernkrieg is a perfect example of how religious extremism masters a receptive population and rapidly excites it to violence in God's name. Similarly in the greater Middle East an eruption of fundamentalist faith had arisen in the wake of Martin Luther's confrontation with the papacy.
