Article Abstract:
Stewart & Stevenson Tactical Vehicle Systems Div (S&S) VP and General Manager Richard M Wiater presented his views on his firm's management thrusts and objectives. S&S encountered a problem when its Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) which it made for the Army under a contract signed in 1991 began to have drive shaft problems by 1998. Wiater decided to institute a program to fix and upgrade the FMTV driveline. Wiater also discussed his firm's efforts to improve their accounting system, engineering documentation, supplier program and their installment of Pro-Engineering.
