Small calibre guns needed more than ever before
Article Abstract:
The asymmetric threats faced by Western Navies necessitate, more than ever before, the employment of directly aimed, and modern, small caliber guns onboard warships. Models of such guns like Israel's Typhoon, the US Navy's Phalanx Surface Mode (PSUM) and the Mauser MLG-27 are equipped with the availability of an electro-optical sensor that enables them to conduct autonomous, all-weather surveillance, identification and tracking of day-and-night encounters, and are operated by remote-control, thus protecting the operator from weather conditions and possible injuries.

Evolution of 'smart' naval munitions
Article Abstract:
The US Navy has launched an intense programme, called CMATD (Corrected Munition Advanced Technology Demonstrator) for testing the gun-survivability of a number of key components, providing an economic short-cut to a 5-in gun fired GPS-guided munition. The evolution of smart naval munitions with low-cost solutions that could be fitted to both traditional and rocket-assisted naval ordnances, with significant improvements is discussed.

Fleet marine mammal system: How to transform sea lions, dolphins or belugas into combatant assets
Article Abstract:
Marine mammals such as sea lions, dolphins or belugas are being considered for harbor defense and detecting divers because of their hydrodynamic behavior and incredible performance of their bio-sonar. The futures of the Marine Mammal System (MMS) that are used by the U.S. Navy for mine countermeasures are discussed.
