Solutions to TDG #03-3
Article Abstract:
The Tactical Decision Game #03-3 presents a situation where the commander of a Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) is in charge of an operation to bolster the democratically elected president of Barass, a Third World country torn apart by civil war, with an interim mission to disarm all militia in the current area of operations (AO) and provide humanitarian aid to the civilian population. Twelve men from Alpha Company have been taken hostage and held in the village of Liessa and on the way there are six to eight potentially hostile company-sized militias that need to be disarmed in the absence of an antiterrorist unit. Three different courses of action accompanied by their rationale are presented in response to this situation given that four CH-53s, two AH-1W Super Cobras and one CH-46 are available for supporting the operation to rescue the hostages before they are moved.

The exercise is the leading edge of change in the way the Corps prepares for the long war. The close teamwork between the Operating Forces and the Supporting Establishment continues to provide the most relevant, accurate, and realistic training fighting forces need to achieve victory on complex, modern battlefields.
