Sonar sentinels on guard for submerged swimmers
Article Abstract:
The increasing concerns over the emerging threats and the vulnerability of ports and coastal infrastructure to terrorist attacks are driving the development of a new generation of sonar systems designed to provide early warning of diver intrusion. Kongsberg Mesotech's SM 2000 sonar system, the Diver Detection Sonar (DDS) from dsIT Technologies, QinetiQ's Cerberus and CodaOctopus' Echoscope sonar system are some of the latest systems that are used to protect submerged swimmers.
