Super Hornet rated "effective, suitable"; multiyear procurement is next milestone

The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter took a step closer to full-rate production and multiyear procurement after the US Navy declared the aircraft 'operationally effective' and 'operationally suitable.' The Navy specifically cited the fighter's 'key enhancing features' such as survivability, payload, range, growth potential and weapons-bringback capability.

F/A-18E/F Super Hornet program approved for multiyear procurement
Article Abstract:
Boeing has received a contract for full-rate production of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter. The multiyear contract, worth $8.9 billion, calls for the production of a total of 222 Super Hornets over five years. The transaction is expected to save the US navy over $700 million as well as deliver a quantum leap in tactical ability to the fleet. In FY2000, the Navy will buy 36 Super Hornets which will be followed in FY2001 by 42 aircraft and 48 aircraft in each of the following three fiscal years.

Boeing lands super hornet multiyear; EA-18G version enters demo phase
Article Abstract:
Boeing's Super Hornet was awarded a second multiyear procurement contract for the F/A-18E/F strike fighter aircraft and the award of a system development and demonstration contract for the electronic attack version, the EA-18G. The EA-18G, which uses the basic airframe of the two-seat F/A-18F would feature the Improved Capability III upgrade being incorporated in the EA-6B Prowler jamming aircraft.
