Tactical airborne sensors: some thoughts on the future
Article Abstract:
Airborne sensor and sensor fusion technology will undergo dramatic improvements over the next 25 years. More accurate sensors should provide their platforms with more lethality, greater survivability and more impact. Specifically, pilots will attain full spherical awareness and will be able to see beyond the horizon. Pilots will also be able to target moving ground targets in all weather situations thanks to RF.

The Swedish JAS-39 GRIPEN multi-role combat aircraft program features a modular avionics system that can be configured for different platform requirements. The development of the system by Ericsson Saab Avionics AB is discussed.
