Critical infrastructure that includes everything from bridges to the information highway and even power plants and other crucial assets continue to remain vulnerable to terrorists post September 11, 2001. Creating a coordinated, smooth functioning system to protect such infrastructure is one of the most difficult challenges facing the Department of Homeland Security.

The nontraditional threats have changed the Pentagon's weapons priorities in order to respond to the realities of the global war on terrorism.
