The AFV industry in the USA
Article Abstract:
The US has the biggest active fleet of armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) in the world, with 46,925 AFVs, including 8,329 main battle tanks. Leading suppliers include General Dynamics Land Systems, Textron Marine & Land Systems, United Defense and AM General. For FY99, the US Army has appropriated $691.8 million for the upgrading of another batch of 120 M1 ABRAMS tanks to the M1A2 configuration and $361.9 million for the upgrading of 73 M2A2 BRADLEY IFvs to the M2A3 configuration.

Timoney Technology Group, which produced APCs delivered to the Middle East, Africa, Belgium, the UK and South America, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 1997. The portfolio of the firm, which was established in Dublin, Ireland, by Professor Seamus Timoney, also includes Airport Crash Fire Rescue Vehicles delivered to Africa, the USA, Ireland and the UK, prototypes such as the mine-protected Light Strike Vehicle and mining and forestry vehicles.
