Ukraine's aerospace industry has been struggling to survive, with Ukrainian defense companies producing a mere one-tenth of the total volume of hardware they manufactured prior to that nation's independence. The government has been forced to channel limited funds to the concerns it believes are worth preserving. It is paying special attention to the aerospace sector because Ukraine possesses advanced space technology and is the site of the world's largest rocket manufacturing factory.
