Article Abstract:
US President George W. Bush stated that US would welcome the emergence of a China that is peaceful cooperates with them to address common challenges and mutual interest if China becomes a responsible stakeholder that fulfills its obligations and works with the US and others to advance the international system that has enabled its success. However Bush scolded the Chinese on a number of counts, admonishing them that they cannot expect to reap the economic rewards of capitalism without granting its people personal liberties.

Chinese military is catching up - fast
Article Abstract:
China's military build-up at an estimated cost of $90 billion in 2005 and consisting of new warships, submarines, fighter aircraft, missiles and ground vehicles, could pose a strong challenge to the US action in East Asia and the Western Pacific. China is also expanding its command and control and intelligence-surveillance-reconnaissance as well as its space capabilities but it remains unclear how it intends to use its growing military power.

Sorting out the UAV situation
Article Abstract:
The Joint Requirements Oversight Council has decided against creating a single executive agent for the US military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) preferring instead to have several joint organizations unifying and rationalizing the functions of UAV forces. The USAF had put in a bid to be the executive agent but this was shot down by the other services.
