The US Air Force Academy opened its doors to its first group of cadets numbering 306 in 1955 in Lowry AFB, Colorado, a temporary location and shifted to a permanent location in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1959, with 206 of the first group successfully completing their training in the same year. Information about the placement of the different officers of the batch dubbed the 'class of 1959' during the missile crisis in 1962, when the Soviet Union moved nuclear missiles into Cuba, within striking distance of the US, as fed by the 'Class of 1959' website, is provided.

Force development hits its stride
Article Abstract:
The US Air Force (USAF) had launched Force Development, which entailed an overhaul of USAF's personnel system, the main aim being to tie training and education more closely to an airman's career development and to tailor assignments to the same end. The changes that have occurred in the preparation and competence of the force since the Force Development initiative started are examined.
