The expeditionary force development system: A new combat development tool for the 21st century
Article Abstract:
The expeditionary force development system (EFDS) is a user-friendly system that is sophisticated enough to allow it to function in the complex acquisition world. The importance of the EFDS can be described with the help of a flow chart consisting of Phase I as force capability development, Phase II as requirement development, Phase III as prioritization and resourcing and Phase IV as capability, fielding and transition.

Near-term solutions based on existing equipment, organizations, and operating concepts and longer term solutions that would leverage future equipment, such as the Joint Strike Fighter MV-22 Osprey, maritime prepositioning force and operating concepts are examined. The concept of distributed operations may be articulated as a result of stability, support operations, and technologically enabled new capabilities.
