The foreign military training unit: Kingmakers, not kings
Article Abstract:
A short description on the Foreign Military Training Unit (FMTU), a unique unit, which was originally formed to meet the Marine Corps' operational requirements for advisors in Iraq and Afghanistan, is presented with reference to its focus, structure and background, operations and training and preparation. The FMTU is structured with a staff composed of the normal functional areas, plus its own internal training cadre.

Off target with Intel: Small unit focused intelligence
Article Abstract:
The Marine Corps intelligence system in Iraq is not equipped to fight an insurgency and hence simple changes in the training of Marines and the Iraqi Army are proposed. Marine Corps, specifically rifle companies, must adapt to intelligence needs based on individuals, small groups and networks that would enable effective combat operations in an insurgency.
