Article Abstract:
The Defense Dept is poised to launch the ambitious Joint Contingency Force Advanced Warfighting Equipment (JCF AWE), which will primarily be an Army event, on Sep 9, 2000. However, a number of senior military officials remain concerned that many of the participating troops may not be sufficiently prepared to fulfill their assigned tasks in the experiment. These officials believe that it would be better to delay the JCF AWE exercise until both the soldiers and their equipment are ready.

Air power's backbone
Article Abstract:
Air Expeditionary Forces (AEF) or 'prepackaged' task forces, which will be composed of active duty, Reserve and National Guard forces, will be the vital operational elements of the Expeditionary Aerospace Force. AEFs will have approximately 30 fighters but tanker and transport aircraft will be included to the AEF packages once the AEF concept is realized. Every 10 standing AEFs will be supported by US-based heavy bombers. AEFs should always be ready for deployment during contingencies that range from peacekeeping to humanitarian missions and combat operations.
