UK planning a universal observer trial
Article Abstract:
The UK 3 Commando Brigade has developed a new Fire Support Team (FST) concept, which will be demonstrated at the inaugural ceremony in June 2005 in the north of Scotland, as a part of the UK-run Joint Maritime Course 052. Drawing lessons from the recent combat experience in Afghanistan and Iraq, the US and UK forces have drawn specifications for the training and use of "common" or "universal" observers who will be able to control the overall battlefield effects.

Lessons learned for UK commando fire supporters
Article Abstract:
The SMI Indirect Fire Support conference staged in London enumerated the lessons learned from the operation TELIC, providing offensive support during Anglo-US combined joint operations in and around the Al Faw peninsular in Iraq. One of the most important lessons identified was the requirement to create fire support teams to incorporate all of the offensive support assets available, especially air and aviation.

Metrum to unveil digital data recorder
Article Abstract:
Metrum Information Storage has introduced a new digital data recorder for military applications. The new recorder was displayed at at the September 20001 DSEI defense show in London.
