The plain of jars
Article Abstract:
The Plain of Jars in northern Laos is a 500-sq mile, diamond-shaped territory that derives its name from hundreds of huge, roughly five-feet- long and 2.5-ft-wide, gray stone containers which dot the landscape. It was strategically located and was to become a hotly contested battlefield in many conflicts which plagued Indochina in the 20th century. During the Vietnam War, many military campaigns were fought at this site in parallel with a continuing bombing effort against the strategic Ho Chi Minh Trail.
