The UK Royal Navy (RN) is to validate the results of the sortie generation performance that can be achieved by carrier GR7/GR9 short take-off vertical landing (STOVL) attack aircraft operating from invincible-class carriers. A CVS carrier would be capable of generating 50 to 60 sorties a day over a five-day period and whether this can indeed be achieved in practice will be tested in early 2005 during the operational trials of HMS 'Illustrious'.

The UK Royal Navy (RN) is to validate the results of the sortie generation performance that can be achieved by carrier GR7/GR9 short take-off vertical landing (STOVL) attack aircraft operating from invincible-class carriers.
