US plans for nuclear weapons modernization draw criticism
Article Abstract:
The US National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is planning major reforms such as introducing new weapon designs, dismantling of obsolete weapons at an accelerated rate so as to reorganize and downsize the nuclear weapons complex it oversees. The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water has criticized the NNSA plan for accepting the recommended reforms in only a very limited manner, for proposing plans that maximize physical size and cost of the weapons complex which amount to being merely a new title for the same old strategy.

The rendition activities of the US, which has resulted in a probe by the law enforcement agencies and parliamentary committees in Canada, Germany, Italy and Sweden, threaten to jeopardize the usually good cooperation the intelligence agencies of those governments have with Washington.
