US to trial new submarine communications buoy
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Navy (USN) would begin the trail of a new submarine two-way communications buoy developed by a U.K. industry team led by Ultra Electronics Sonar and Communications Systems by the year 2006. The Recoverable Tethered Optical-Fibre (ROTF) system is identified as a potential enabler for the USN's Communications at Speed and Depth programme and the UK Royal Navy's equivalent Effective Task Force Communications Requirement.
