USAF identifies additional roles for its Sniper advanced targeting pods
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin AN/AAQ-33 Sniper advanced targeting pods flown on US Air Force (USAF) F-15E and F-16C fighter aircraft over Iraq have proved effective in providing standoff detection of improvised explosive devices (IEDS) along convoy routes, which was disclosed by Ron Rodenroth of Lockheed Martin, on May 24, 2006. The Sniper is also useful for convoy reconnaissance, and for identifying armed insurgents from extended standoff ranges.
