Visby's naming ceremony - as studies start on new generation of surface combatants
Article Abstract:
Kockums AB of Sweden has been awarded a $900,000-contract by Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration to study technologies for the next generation of surface combatants for the Swedish Navy. The contract was announced in Jun 8, 2000 prior to the naming ceremony for HSwMS Visby, which is the first of the class of six stealth corvettes being built by Kockums. The next generation Swedish surface combatant is expected to enter service within the next 10 to 12 years.

Aeronavale ready to embark on new era

France's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is preparing to be fully operational. The first three of up to 60 Rafale multi-role fighters and the first two of three E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning and control aircraft have been delivered. Charles de Gaulle's air group will consist of the squadrons 11F and 17F and 4F including a rescue helicopter detachment equipped with AS565MA Panther.
