The Global Positioning System (GPS) is evolving in terms of its accuracy, availability and breadth of applications. The USAF has designated GPS III as a pathfinder program that would employ an evolutionary development approach using a modular open-systems architecture, standard interfaces and protocols and a continous technology refresh process.
