Who is Steve Cambone? A look at Rumsfeld's right-hand man
Article Abstract:
Stephen Cambone entered the Bush administration in 1990 as director for strategic defense policy at the Pentagon, and was tapped as a special assistant to the secretary and deputy secretary of defense. It was believed that Cambone's nomination to the position of undersecretary of defense for intelligence was the culmination of Rumsfeld's efforts to politicize intelligence gathering and analysis.

Racing the clock
Article Abstract:
Robert Gates, the new defense secretary nominee, does not have enough time left to generate substantive strategic changes before the next administration takes office. The 2008 presidential election is underway and not much lasting changes can realistically be expected in the final two years of any administration, particularly because the embrace of change falters in the final year.
