The Mexican peso lost 35% of its value in Jan 1994, causing foreign investors to withdraw $10 billion in funds from the country. The Bank of Canada, abiding by NAFTA regulations, offered Mexico a $1.5 billion line of credit, distressing some Canadian fiscal conservatives.
