Hewlett-Packard may seek deal for consultants
Article Abstract:
Hewlett-Packard appears to be the leading contender in the bidding for PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting unit. The deal comes as the SEC increasingly raises a conflict of interest flag for auditing firms operating consulting businesses. Hewlett-Packard would create a full service computer services company, much along the model that has served IBM so successfully. $20 bil is the rumored price for the acquisition. Any agreement would be subject to approval by the SEC and PricewaterhouseCoopers' 10,000 worldwide partners. The list of other businesses considering acquiring the PricewaterhouseCoopers unit included GE, Siemens, Microsoft and IBM.
