Shareholder vote keeps IBM pension issues in play
Article Abstract:
IBM's pension plan on Apr 25, 2000 was again severely criticized when 28% of its shares were cast for allowing employees to choose the traditional plan instead of the cash-balance plan the company adopted in May 1999. Although the vote was non-binding and failed to become a majority, it was supported more than most resolutions opposed by corporate management and easily surpassed the 33% required to bring the issue to a vote again in 2001.
