A compromise has been reached in regard to the management of Abitibi Consolidated Inc. Pierre Karl Peladeau, CEO of Quebecor, had tried to oust John Weaver, president of Abitibi. Weaver retained his position; but Peladeau, whose company owns an 11% stake in Abitibi, was appointed vice-chairman.

Abitibi to shut Eastern mills for three weeks
