Stockholders flocked to Seagram Co's annual meeting in June 1995 to hear its executives explain their sale of the firm's Du Pont Co holdings to finance the purchase of an 80% interest in MCA. CEO Edgar Bronfman expects MCA to account for 33% of Seagram's earnings, but Du Pont had accounted for 65%.

Seagram Company Ltd acquired 80% of MCA Inc from Matsushita Electric Industrial Co in Apr 1995, for $8 billion. Seagram CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr financed much of the purchase price by selling the firm's stake in the highly profitable EI du Pont de Nemours & Co.
