Aging populace behind jump in cancer rates
Article Abstract:
Around 129,3000 more Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and 63,400 will die from cancer-related causes in 1999, up by 20% since 1989, according to a report by the Canadian Cancer Society. The report also projected a 70% increase in newly diagnosed cancer patients by the year 2010. Around 70% of new cancer cases and 80% of cancer-related deaths involve persons who are 60 years or older.
