Air Canada/Canadian switch U.S. airline partners
Article Abstract:
Air Canada (Toronto) and Canadian Airlines have cancelled their partnership with American Airlines Inc. and have signed a new deal with Delta Air Lines Inc. (Atlanta). American was the controlling shareholder of Canadian before the sale. The deal with Delta will allow the airlines to code-share in North America and to increase the flights they offer between each other's hubs. Airlines will sign code-sharing arrangements to offer a broader range of flights to their customers. It will also allow passengers to make seamless connections without buying multiple tickets. Air Canada will continue its agreement with the international Star Alliance, which includes United Airlines Inc.

Air Canada pilots prepared to strike
Article Abstract:
Air Canada's 2,100 pilots have voted 97% in favor of a strike if they fail to reach a contract agreement with the airline. Union officials stated that some of the pilots could be off the job as early as mid-August 1998. Jean-Marc Belanger, chairman of the Air Canada Pilots Association's master executive council, stated that the union would prefer to reach a settlement with Air Canada but they believe the carrier was reluctant to negotiate. Air Canada's pilots have been without a contract since Apr. 1, 1998.
