Airline merger carries pros, cons for fliers
Article Abstract:
Regulatory approval for United Air Lines' $4.3 billion acquisition of US Airways would depend on how federal authorities perceive the notion that being big is necessarily bad. A combined United-US Airways entity would command a 30% share of the nonstop domestic routes flown by the US' 10 major airlines. Moreover, United would own 65% or more of the seats available on those routes. Regulators may also have to worry about provoking another round of consolidation among airlines if the acquisition is finally given approval.

Future of DC Air hazy after new offer
Article Abstract:
Continental Airlines has offered $215 million in cash for US Airways assets. The offer has complicated the merger agreement between US Airways and United Airlines.
